Lesson 11: Partial Slurs

In Lesson 11 we will continue to expand our range with more lip slurs exercises. All notes in this lesson will be an open fingering starting from C below the staff. However, you can apply this exercise to lip slurs on any valve combination for a great warm-up!

Partial Slurs Exercise

This exercise should all be played with an open fingering and NO tongue. Lip slurs only. Make sure to take a big breath in each rest. It's okay if these aren't done in strict time. The point is to focus on your embouchure and airstream. Don't move on until you can do the first line successfully.

The notes marked with an * are "fake" notes, meaning that you wouldn't normally play this note in an open fingering, but the pitch will still come out in the overtone series. These notes will be very out of tune.

Remember, you can apply this exercise to any valve combination.
