Lesson 14: Getting Out the Spit!
In Lesson 14 we will learn some tricks to get out that darn spit!
Steps to Getting out the Spit
*Pull and roll technique
-
Take out your mouthpiece.
-
Roll your horn at the lead pipe to empty spit.
-
Roll and pull out your main tuning slides.
-
Roll and pull out your Bb tuning slide.
-
Check your third valve tuning slides.
-
Continue checking slides until you find the spit.
Things to Keep in Mind
-
Spit and condensation will gather at the lowest point of gravity on the horn.
-
Most spit will be in the lead pipe. The rest of the water you will find is just condensation and extra moisture.
-
Give your slides a good shake when you pull them out.
-
When in doubt, PULL IT OUT!
-
When you pull out a valve slide, make sure you are pressing that lever down. Do the same thing when you put the slide back in.
-
NEVER pull all of your slides out at once. You may forget where to put them back.
-
Some double horns have a water key by the lead pipe for a quick release of spit so check to see if your horn has one.
