Dynamic Long Tone Exercise

The objective of this exercise is to obtain even crescendos and decrescendos while controlling your air stream and sustaining an even pitch. Start with soft but definite attacks, support each crescendo with your diaphragm and allow the lips to gradually relax as the volume of air increases, and lip tension will gradually take over as you decrescendo. If this is done correctly, you should have an even, steady tone as you sustain each note.
